Before I finally discovered what my life's purpose became, I'd searched for years within myself, even asking the universe what my role here on planet Earth was. I didn't want to continue my corporate career. I had originally loved it and had worked long hours learning my trade. I'd climbed the power structure that led to a senior grade and a top salary but when I reached my goal, I felt so empty inside. I felt lost and unfulfilled.
As I watched my peers bathe in their successes, something inside of me felt totally unaligned with the world in which I worked. I felt like a misfit and a fraud. I felt like I didn't belong.
So what was the answer?
So often I hear the same story. A heart says one thing and the head says another. The internal ubiquitous battle of emotions engulfs the mind state until we either give in or run away!
The good news is, there is a way through it. We don't have to be shackled by the chains of corporate or the life we chose as an ignorant teenager. Afterall, who really has a clue what they what to spend the rest of their life doing when they've barely begun living?
That said, life is an adventure. It's full of exploration, unexpected turns and experiences. That's what makes our lives so unique.
So back to my story. How did I find my life purpose?
Escape to the Country
I decided to run away to the country! Actually I left the country! Sounds drastic indeed but I didn't just pack my bags and leave. Well, I did, but I created a plan of escape. Like all good runs for freedom, my plan was created to ensure a positive outcome. In fact I wrote my own story.
The key to finding my life's purpose was to step away from the crazy busy world in which I was being consumed.
Time out, allowed me to rediscover myself and my allow my passions to reveal themselves. And, boy did it work!
I made sure that I had the following in place before I left:-
- other revenue streams so that I could live
- a support network to call upon when things got tough
- a contingency plan in case things didn't work out
- a destination in mind for the journey ahead
- an action plan during my hiatus
- a list of my skills
- a good note book that fitted into my bag wherever I went
- trust and belief in myself
Guess what - My plan worked! I actually did it. I successfully escaped from my corporate life. Now don't get me wrong, it served me very well and taught me well, but this is where my heart belongs.
I'm living a joyful life in another country.I have the freedom to explore my surroundings and the wider world. I'm developing new friendships far and wide. Most of all I'm living my story and I can edit it whenever I choose to.
If you dream of finding your true purpose, you can do it.
In fact I urge you to. As my Aunty Julie always said, "life is not a dress rehearsal".
And it's not difficult. Yes, a little scary perhaps but when you're in the action, you don't have time to worry about the consequences, simply excited about the possibilities.
The only warning I give you is, that you\need to invest to make it happen. You need to put yourself first. Forget about the day job, it begin's with you!
